The Case of the Missing Shoutbox: An Evening Sparkles Story
One day Wertie was walking along Evening Sparkles Square and noticed that the shoutbox was missing. “OMG WTF!?” she cried out. Alpha heard her and came running. “What’s wrong???” he asked. Wertie didn’t reply she was in such shock. She just pointed at an empty spot in the grass. Alpha’s eyes got wide when they saw where Wertie was pointing. It was where the shoutbox usually sat. “Where is it?” he demanded. “I don’t know,” Wertie finally managed to reply. “It was gone when I got here.” “We have to get the ES Council together,” Alpha declared. Three hours later four people sat around a square table. “We’ve brought the council together because we have a problem,” Alpha told the others. “A big problem.” “What is it?” Twilight asked him. “The shoutbox has gone missing.” Twilight and Stargazer both let out shocked gasps. “Oh no,” Twilight replied. “That’s awful,” Stargazer added. “It is,” Wertie agreed solemnly. “We’re going to have to find it,” Alpha said. “But how?” asked Twilight. “I think we should split into teams,” Wertie said, “and look for it.” “We should also question the townspeople,” Alpha added. So they split into teams, Twilight and Stargazer heading North, and Wertie and Alpha heading South. Twilight and Stargazer came across the Nemesis outside his house petting one of his pet bunnies. “Good Fluffy,” he said to the bunny. He looked up at Twilight and Stargazer. “Can I help you?” “We are here because of a town crisis. When was the last time you saw the shoutbox?” Twilight asked him. “Last night, at midnight. I was using it to shout.” He looked over towards his garden and yelled out, “No Stumpeh! Bad bunny!” Twilight and Stargazer watched as the Nemesis ran over and stopped the bunny from eating his lettuce. “Bunnies,” the Nemesis sighed. “Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.” “Did you see anyone using the shoutbox after you did?” Stargazer asked. “Actually yes,” the Nemesis replied, “I saw Koko coming into the square as I was leaving. She was heading towards the shoutbox.” So Twilight and Stargazer said goodbye to the Nemesis and headed further North. On the other side of town Alpha and Wertie had just gotten to Lady Galaxy’s house. Wertie walked up and knocked on the door. Lady Galaxy answered the door after a minute, “Hello?” she said looking at Wertie and Alpha with a surprised look on her face. “Do you remember the last time you saw the shoutbox?” Alpha asked her. Lady Galaxy thought for a minute. “Not really.” “How can you not remember the last time you saw the shoutbox?” Wertie said. “I just moved here, I haven’t even had time to unpack all my boxes!” “Sorry, I guess the shoutbox is just a little more important to some of us,” Wertie said while glaring at Lady Galaxy. “Let’s go,” she said to Alpha. “I’m sorry for her attitude, this is just a trying time for us with the shoutbox being missing,” Alpha said as he headed out the door behind Wertie. By this time Twilight and Stargazer had reached Koko’s house. Stargazer rang the bell and Koko came to the door very quickly. Seeing Twilight and Stargazer standing there Koko asked, “What are you doing here?” “You were the last person to see the shoutbox,” Twilight told her. “Last person to see it?” “It has gone missing,” Stargazer explained. “And the Nemesis saw you heading towards it last night.” “I don’t know what you are talking about, I was no where near the shoutbox last night.” “Stop lying, Nemesis saw you,” Twilight said. “He must be mistaken,” Koko said frowning. “I haven’t seen the shoutbox since Monday morning. I never leave the house that late.” “How late is that?” Stargazer asked. “I never leave past one.” “We never said when the shoutbox had been stolen.” Stargazer told her. Koko slammed the door in their faces and ran for the back door. Luckily Twilight outran her and was there when she opened the back door. Twilight grabbed Koko and pushed her to the ground. “How dare you steal the shoutbox! How could you?” “Wertie was going to tell everyone my secret!” Koko said defensively. “I had to stop her!” “So you took the shoutbox so she couldn’t use it?” “Yes.” “Where is the shoutbox?” “It is under my bed.” Twilight stayed with Koko to make sure she didn’t go anywhere while Stargazer went in to get the shoutbox. Stargazer found it right where Koko said it would be and the blue box was set back in it’s place in the town square. Koko was sentenced to two weeks in Evening Sparkles jail for such a hideous crime against society.
